Mundelein After School Coalition Veterans Dinner A Smash!
Sponsored by the Mundelein Police Department and the Mundelein After School Coalition (MASC), the annual appreciation dinner for Veterans was held on June 3 at the Doubletree Hotel in Mundelein.
Hosted by Officer Jessica Sexton of the Mundelein Police Department, the dinner attracted about 160 Veterans and guests. MASC is a group of students attending one area high school and three middle schools, all working together to raise funds to support Veterans.
“It’s our way to thank Veterans for everything they have given to our country,” Officer Sexton said.
Several raffles were held throughout the evening with attendees winning donated prizes. Tuesday night Cup-A-Joe Vietnam Veterans and 1stCavalry Division member Bill Murphy was a raffle winner.
The evening included songs from LCVFSF Veteran Angela Walker who sang the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful”.
Among the dinner attendees were Lake County Veterans and Family Services Foundation Cup-A-Joe members, LCVFSF Board member Debra Lewis, and AbbVie’s Michelle Raine-Shepherd.
“It was a nice evening,” according to Deb Lewis. Michelle brought her mother as a guest. Both enjoyed the dinner, the entertainment and the raffles. “We had a great time, “Michelle said.
Thank you to the Mundelein Police Department and the students of the Mundelein After School Coalition for remembering Veterans in this special way.
