A free Veterans dinner was hosted by Lake County Veterans and Family Services Foundation (LCVFSF) Waukegan “Cup-A-Joe”, the JIC Community Development Corporation, Northern Illinois Recovery Community Organization (NIRCO), and the Multi-Faith Veterans Initiative, the free dinner was designed to thank Veterans for their service. The dinner was held at the JIC Community Development Center in Waukegan on November 7th thanks to the initiative and hard work of hostess Deb Lewis (LCVFSF board member) and the support of Dr. Mary Roberson, NIRCO Executive Director.
The first-of-its-kind dinner was attended by 32 Veterans and guests. In addition to enjoying the homemade catered food, attendees had an opportunity to express what it meant to them to be a Veteran in today’s world. Attendees also posted their names, rank, and dates of service on a wall display for all visitors to the JIC Center to see.
Keith Foulks was in attendance representing his Veteran father who was unable to attend while recovering at James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. The young man spoke of how proud he was to have learned so much from his Veteran father.
Both the oldest attendee – John Perry — and the youngest –Keith Foulks, Jr. — were recognized during the festivities.
